Professional rat control for Henley

Total control of rats in Henley on Thames and the surrounding area

We keep on seeing rats in the garden, why are rats such a problem in Henley?
Henley like many riverside towns has a problem with rats; you will always find these rodents near waterways as these are a source of food and drinking water as well as a means of getting around.

Rats are good swimmers with incredible stamina and they can tread water form three days, swimming underwater rats can hold their breath for up to three minutes; this aquatic proficiency means riverside towns will always have high populations.

The common rat – Rattus Norvegicus is a highly intelligent and adaptable animal, as an omnivore it will feed on just about anything it can get its paws on and wherever mankind settles so does the rat.

Rats have the ability to breed all year long given access to shelter and a constant food supply; carelessly placed rubbish, bird feeders and access to the drains all provide a year round food supply – yes, they eat what they find in the drains.

What are the signs of a rat infestation in our house?

Rats leave a prolific amount of fecal matter behind them, around 40 poops a day and as pest controllers this is one of the signs of a rat infestation that we look for. As well as the poop rats have a distinctive odour from their urine and their fur; we can often detect the presence of rats just from opening something like a loft hatch and getting a waft of this.

Rat droppings change colour as they age: shiny brown when fresh – bit like milk chocolate to look at (you’re never forget this when you bite into a Dairy Milk bar) changing to black and glossy. As they dehydrate they wrinkle and so look a bit like a raisin and when they get really old they go a greyish black. About twice the size of a long grain rice, I think they look like a liquorice torpedo – probably taste like it too!

Rats are dirty animals, along with the droppings they leave smear marks from where they brush their greasy fur over surfaces; we can sometimes follow these trails to the entrance point if they have been inside a property for enough time.

If rats squeeze through a small gap, especially one with rough edges you may find strands of rat hair on the edges.

Rats can be found living underground in the drainage systems and faulty sewerage pipes are a common cause for internal rat infestations. This is why we carryout CCTV drain surveys as standard, we want to get you rat free as quickly as possible.

Equally they can be found under the garden shed and up in the loft of your house, these animals can live in so many habitats because they are truly successful.

The rat can jump well over two feet in a straight up movement; to put that into context most domestic kitchen base units stand at a height of 80 cm, any item stood in the kitchen like a stool or a waste bin may be used in a stepping stone like manner to gain access onto those worktops.
